Heathrow airport is one of the busiest airports in the World. With 5 terminals and flights going all over the world, it is naturally a hub of activity. Heathrow airport itself is like a small city with shops and places to eat but there is also so much to do in the nearby vicinity.
You go to Heathrow airport to fly out to somewhere else but people often don’t realise how close you actually are to some really good attractions, so why not extend your holiday and get to Heathrow a bit early or rest after your flight. Book into a Heathrow hotel and see what Heathrow and its surrounding areas have to offer.
Open Top Bus Tour
You don’t have long before your flight but do have a few hours to spare so why not go on an open top bus tour? Get guided round all the best spots, such as the ornamental gardens at Windsor Castle each with their own theme. You will also see the famous Hounslow Heath where travellers used to get hijacked by highwaymen on their way into London, but don’t worry they are long gone but you can still see the sights and hear the stories. You may want a more decadent view of the scenes and take the tour in a horse and carriage, the perfect start to a honeymoon or if you want to treat your better half to a romantic trip.
Windsor Castle
Book an extra night at a Heathrow airport hotel and go to see the famous Windsor Castle, the official home of the Queen Elizabeth II and many members of the British Royal Family. Visit the tombs of 10 Royal generations and their close families, including the Queen’s parents King George VI and the Queen Mother. The rooms of the castle are in immaculate condition and the decorations are lavish and decadent, certainly fit for a Queen. You can be guided round the castle and see and hear the stories of Monarchs of the past, and you never know, you may catch a glimpse of the Queen herself if you are lucky.
Ascot Racecourse
Another favourite of the Queen’s and near to Heathrow Airport is Ascot Racecourse. This is a great place to go if you add a few nights to your holiday you can make a few bets on the horses or just enjoy the atmosphere of a good day out. There are Ladies days and charity days and it won’t cost as much as you think as family tickets can cost as little as £12.
Legoland
If you are going on a family holiday then the kids will love it if you add an extra day and go to Legoland, Windsor. There are rides and attractions and it is amazing how creative you can be with Lego, you may find your kids go home and try to rebuild some of the exhibits with their own Lego sets when they get home. Small kids even get the chance to drive around in smaller Lego cars.
When going on holiday you should definitely consider booking an extra few nights at one of the hotels in Heathrow Airport and extend your holiday. Not only will you feel more relaxed when catching the plane but you will have a brilliant time visiting some of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions.
